Exam Details

The International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA®) administers a professional certification to practitioners of business analysis who wish to demonstrate their skills and receive formal recognition of their expertise. This designation is called the Certification of Competency in Business Analysis™ (CCBA®). Candidates for the CCBA® certification are recognized for the professional investment they have made in their business analysis career and desire to advance in the field.

The CCBA® certification is also ideal for professionals working in hybrid business analyst roles, who wish to demonstrate and receive formal recognition of their skills. For example, those performing business analysis in conjunction with an additional professional role as a project manager, system analyst, quality assurance tester, management and many other BA hybrid roles.

The CCBA® is similar to the CBAP® designation, however it requires less BA work experience for application and the exam is comprised of mostly knowledge and fact-oriented questions while the CBAP® is comprised of situation-based questions, both derived from the BABOK® Guide. The qualifications, as designated by the IIBA® for the CCBA® exam are as follows:

CCBA® Certification Criteria:

Education Requirement :High School or Equivalent Education

BA Work Experience : 3750 Hours (aligned with BABOK® Guide in the last 7 years)

Knowledge Area (KA) Requirement : 900 Hours in 2 of 6 KA’s or 500 hours in 4 of 6 KA’s (included in 3750 Hours of BA Work Experience)

Professional Development Experience : 21 Hours in the past 4 years*

References :2 References from a career manager, client, or CBAP® Recipient

Number of Questions : 150

Exam Length: 3.5 hours

Sign Code of Conduct : Yes

Credential Maintenance & Expiration : Every 3 years, expires if not renewed

* The IIBA® endorsed courses per the Endorsed Education Provider (EEP™) program automatically qualify towards the 21 hours of Professional Development for initial certification.

Applying for the Exam

More information on applying for the exam is available on the IIBA’s website (www.iiba.org). Click the “Certification” tab on the main menu of the homepage, then choose “CCBA Designation”.

The Examination

The examination is computer-based and is comprised of 150 multiple-choice questions. The allotted time to complete the examination is three and one-half (3.5) hours. The examination is offered around the world at IIBA®-approved testing centers. To find a testing center in your area please visit the IIBA website.
